Cook Balinese

The kitchen these recipes come from

Who cooks the recipes on Cook Balinese: Chef Wayan Suryana at Warung Tumang Bali in Banjar Laplapan, Petulu, one kitchen for the whole Tumang Bali class.

Cook Balinese is a recipe desk for one village kitchen, not a second restaurant. The dishes are the ones ground and fried at Warung Tumang Bali in Banjar Laplapan, Petulu, by Chef Wayan Suryana and the guests cooking with him.

One business

The map pin is Warung Tumang Bali. The cooking class, the vegetarian menu, and these recipes are that same place. Nothing on this site is a different dining room with its own name.

How a class morning works

A morning booking shops the market, walks the rice fields, then cooks. An afternoon booking skips the market and starts at the fields. Groups stop at eight people. The teaching is in English. Hotels and villas in the main Ubud area are picked up at no charge. The kitchen is about 10 minutes from central Ubud, depending on traffic.

The chef

Wayan Suryana is Ubud-born and has spent more than fifteen years teaching travelers to grind base genep and cook a full Balinese meal in this kitchen. You cook every dish. It is not a demonstration you watch from a stool.

Rates move. Through September 2026 a shared class is IDR 300,000 and a private kitchen is IDR 700,000.
